Remington Pearl CI9532 Pro Curl Hair Styler Review

Today's review is on the Remington Pearl C19532 Pro Curl Hair Styler.  This is the curler with the chunkier barrel (32mm).  Be sure to watch out for this because there is another styler by Remington (the Remington Pearl Hair Curling Want Ci95) which I found stores often confuse with the larger one I will be reviewing today.

So, on to the product.  The Remington Pearl Pro Curl hair styler is super sized so it allows you to create big, soft, natural looking curls.  You simply wrap sections of your hair around the barrel (I tend hold them in place for 10-15 seconds) to create your beautiful curls. The tip of the styler isn't heat absorbent so you can use this to help hold the styler in place if you need to.

This curling wand has a special coating on the barrel which claims to keep your hair super smooth and frizz free, more specifically 8 times smoother and 5 times longer lasting compared to standard ceramic wands.  This is quite some claim, but I agree that it is entirely true - it does make your hair very smooth and my hair will stay curled all day and evening BUT my hair is naturally curly and is pretty versatile, I've never found it particular hard to hold a style in my hair. My hair is prone to frizzing and in the past I have found that some curling tongs make the ends fuzzy and dented.  You don't get that look at all with this styler.  Whether it's soley down to this special coating or a combination of this, my hair type and the products I use, I don't know, but either way I'm always pleased with the results.  I also love that this styler doesn't have the clip that some do which cause the ends of your hair to look dented where it hasn't been twisted around the barrel. It also means the tongs do not catch or snag on your hair - the barrel is completely smooth.  With this styler you get perfect curls from root to tip.

This curling wand also boasts a digital LCD display which shows a large temperature range of 130-210°C.  This means you have more control on the amount of heat you want to expose to your hair and can adjust it as necessary.  I found this styler heats up extremely fast - in fact in just 30 seconds which is brilliant.  I remember some of the first curlers I bought used to take an absolute age to heat up but gone are those days! Phew!

Another function which I think is great is an auto switch off after 60 minutes.  I don't know about you but I always worry that I haven't turned off my curlers or straighteners and have to have one last check before dashing out.. at least with these if I think I may have forgotten to turn them off I know that they will do it themselves so I don't have to panic quite so much!

The product also comes with a heat protectant glove (to be honest, I've only used this once.  I prefer to carefully use my bare hands because I can smooth out the hair and have more control). You also get a heat protected pouch so you can store your curler away neatly and prevent it from getting damaged.

This styler is priced at £27.99 at Boots.  If you're looking to buy this product i'd definitely shop around because I found that the prices can vary between £20 and £30 depending on where you buy so you could make a big saving.  A good place to look is Amazon if you don't mind waiting for delivery.

If you would like me to post up a tutorial and/or create a video tutorial using this styler, let me know and I'll do one (I'm not making any promises about the video.. it might be dreadful because I've never done one before but I'll give it a go).

What is your favourite styler for curls?

p.s for anyone wondering why I use curling tongs when my hair is naturally curly there are a couple of reasons.  Firstly, for my hair to go curly I can't blow dry it.  This means I have to leave it to naturally dry which takes hours - something I rarely have time to do.  Secondly, tongs can give you a different curl affect than you get from your natural curls - tighter/looser/more wavy etc. and therefore you can achieve a different look.

  2. Your hair looks beautiful Kimberly! I have curly/wavy hair too but I've struggled to get nice curls with curling irons (I have the Babyliss Conical Wand). How do you manage to get the ends smooth? That's my biggest problem.

    1. Aww thank you Christine! I almost bought that conical wand last year! I've definitely had the best results from using this curler. I think it's because the barrel is pretty wide. In the past i'd always used smeller ones or straighners and you just don't get such a natural looking curl.

After a blow dry my hair I use two products which really help with making the ends of my hair smooth. Firstly a nourishing oil which I focus mainly on the tips but work it up my hair too. At the moment i'm using Lee Staffords Argan Oil (review here: http://kimberley77.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/nourishing-miracle-oil-for-your-hair.html) and that works pretty well. I also use Brilliant Brunette Satin Shine Finishing Creme before and after curling my hair. Before I focus more on the ends and after more on the bulk of my hair. This product not only adds shine but also smooths the hair and adds definition to the curls. I've used it for years!

      I hope that helps :)

    2. Thank you! Yeah I think maybe it would be easier with a wand like you have since the end is thicker. We don't have Lee Stafford products here but I have Moroccain Oil which is similar I assume. Gonna check out the Brilliant Brunette prodcut though :)

  5. gorgeous curls! Curling irons don't work on my hair (it's SUPER thick). I actually use my flat iron to curl! I think a flat iron holds curls a lot better than a curling iron! great review! hope you have a great day!
