MAC Creme Cup Lipstick Review

MAC Creme Cup Lipstick Review

MAC Creme Cup Lipstick Review

 MAC Creme Cup Lipstick Review

So I have a confession.  This is actually the second time I've written this blog post because after spending over an hour writing it up first time round and adding the pictures etc it has mysteriously disappeared! Seriously annoying!!!  Has that happened to anyone else?

So today's post is on one of my favourite lipsticks to wear during the day and that is Crème Cup by MAC.  This shade is a gorgeous nude pink which has blue undertones and one of my favourite finishes.  The cremesheen finish is one of the most moisturising from the MAC range and provides a subtle, glossy and pigmented finish. I can't stand wearing lipsticks that dry out your lips because it is so uncomfortable, so the key thing I look for in a lipstick is the formulation.

I find this lipstick very easy to wear and it is definitely my 'go to' lip colour.  It is such a versatile shade because it isn't too brown or too pink so it goes with a variety of makeup looks and outfits. This is the perfectly toned pink lipstick for those with pale skin tones as it doesn't wash you out but doesn't give you that Barbie pink pop of colour that sometimes you just don't want. Crème Cup is also thankfully in the permanent MAC range so it is easy to find and I know I will definitely get through a few of these!

Like all MAC lipsticks Crème Cup has a scent so gorgeous you're tempted to eat it. The chocolate/vanilla aroma makes the formulation luxurious and I much prefer it to some of the more fruity or chemical smells you can get with lipsticks.

Crème Cup isn't a particularly long lasting lipstick so you do need to re-apply it throughout the day but that doesn't really bother me.  It's the kind of shade you can easily pop on without a mirror if you really have to and when it comes off it doesn't end up patchy so you can pretty much leave it to it's own devices!

You can buy Crème Cup from MAC for £14.

What do you think of Crème Cup? What is your go to day time lipstick?

Beauty Blog Business Cards

Beauty Blog Business Cards

After attending my first beauty bloggers meet up a few months ago I understood exactly why so many bloggers have business cards made.  It is so useful to hand them out when you meet people rather than scrambling to write your details down or pop them in a phone and they are lovely keepsake from meet up and events you attend.  Since ordering them I haven't looked back!

I was lucky enough to order mine from Vista Print when they had a brilliant promotion on.  The business cards themselves (250 of them) were actually free so I only had to pay for postage and packaging which was an amazing deal, especially  as I wasn't sure about the idea initially so didn't want to end up spending a fortune on a load of business cards that would sit in my drawer for years to come.

The website is reasonably easy to use and it was fun to design my cards.  It did, however, make me very tempted to buy a whole heap of them as there are so many gorgeous designs! Haha.  In the end I decided on white double sided cards with a pretty purple floral design.  They actually match my very first blog design perfectly but even though that isn't around any more I thought they were cute and girly so fit my blog well.

Beauty Blog Business Cards

The ordering process was also easy and at the check out you are tempted by a number of different products all hosting your design.  I admit I gave in and bought a 'Kimberley's Beauty Blog' pen also.. cheesy I know but too cool to resist!

This is where things went a bit belly up.  I noticed I had been over charged with delivery and also some labels had made their way into my basket without my knowledge.  This was pretty frustrating at the time but Vista Print responded to my email within minutes and rectified the problem.. very impressive!

When the business cards arrived I couldn't wait to open them and I am very pleased with the results.  They look and feel very professional and contain all the information I wanted without being squashed.  The only downside is that I am now bombarded with e-mails from Vista Print daily which is pretty annoying.

What do you think of my business cards? Do you have any?

Benefit Stay Flawless Primer Review

Benefit Stay Flawless Primer

Benefit Stay Flawless Primer

Benefit Stay Flawless Primer

Benefit Stay Flawless Primer

I hope you're all well.  Last week I was lucky enough to attend the Benefit Stay Flawless event in London which was for the launch of a brand new primer.  Today's post will be a review of that primer but if you want to also check out the event, my post on it is here.

The packaging of the Stay Flawless primer is adorable.  I like the simple use of colour and although it is very different from the packaging of other Benefit products it still fits in with the brand really well.  The cute polka dot design isn't too over the top and reminds me of the current Topshop packaging, so it seems to be a common theme at the moment.  This simple, sleek, professional design really appeals to me.

Moving on to the application, this is completely innovative for a primer.  I don't think I have ever seen a primer that you apply directly onto your skin from a stick and for me it has both pros and cons.  I love the concept as it makes application quick, easy and mess free but it is a little un-hygienic.  For me personally it isn't a huge problem as *touch wood* I am pretty lucky when it comes to spots and blemishes (watch me have a massive break out now I've said that) but for people with acne prone skin especially, I would definitely suggest maybe using a sponge or brush to apply this primer as you don't want to cause spots to spread and application may also be a little more gentle.  That being said, I haven't tried this form of application before so I don't know how the product will react to it.

The Stay Flawless Primer is a large pale, beige stick which is transparent on application so is suitable for all skin types. You apply it by simply twisting up the bottom of the tube and gliding it directly onto cleansed but dry skin.  The formulation feels cool on application, is pretty much scent free and has a smooth texture which isn't greasy or sticky.  We were advised at the event to apply your foundation immediately after the primer so this product is very convenient for people who don't want to hang around waiting for products to be absorbed/dry/set etc.

The idea behind the Stay Flawless primer is that it acts like a magnet (a makeup magnet) to lock your foundation to your skin for up to 15 fresh and flawless hours. It aims to give your skin a natural looking finish as well as making your makeup last longer.  I have tried this primer with three different foundations and I have found it works best with the Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Brightening foundation and least well with Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua.  With the latter it made my skin quite oily and I found I had to use blotting paper to absorb it on and off throughout the day. I have combination skin so I sometimes suffer from an oily nose but this was my whole face so not a good look.  Therefore I would definitely avoid this primer if you have oily skin. Using the Stay Flawless Primer with the Hello Flawless Oxygen foundation, however, was better.  My makeup stayed on for a reasonable amount of time, maybe 7-8 hours and my foundation applied nicely over the top. This primer is definitely one which is most suited to those with dry skin.

Unfortunately, my makeup didn't stay on for the full 15 hours but it is good to use on days when that isn't required and it does feel nice to apply a very thin layer of product rather than your typical gel like formulation as it is very light.  Despite this, I'm afraid it won't take the place of my Porefessional Primer which definitely still has the number 1 spot for me!

You can buy the Stay Flawless primer from Benefit for £24.50. It is due to be launched on the 29th June in the UK but is already available online by the looks of things.

What do you think of this primer? Are you going to try it?

Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub Review

Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub Review

I hope everyone is well? What is with the crazy weather here in the UK at the moment?! This morning it was a beautiful summers day and now it's dull, cold and raining :( *sob sob*

So today's review is on the Soap and Glory Body Scrub Sugar Crush.  This is a very popular product in the beauty world so I had high expectations when trying it for the first time but I must admit I have mixed views about it.

This exfoliator contains brown sugar, sweet lime, almond oil and macadamia grains which together creates a pale brown paste.   Unfortunately, I really dislike the smell.  I first used this product back in January as I got it in a kit at Christmas and it was enough to put me off using it again until the last few weeks.  It's such a shame because this is a really great exfoliator and i'm a fan of Soap and Glory products but for me the lime scent is very overpowering and just a bit much.  I prefer the original scent which whilst strong is more perfumed and floral.

Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub Review

Despite this, as previously mentioned, this is a lovely body scrub.  The product works very well with my sensitive skin as it isn't too harsh.  It feels nourishing as the scrub is a thick consistency and works well to make my skin smooth. It is also easy to apply as you just scoop what you need out of the pot.

The puddles are because I used this in the shower this morning.

The packaging is simple and fits in well with the Soap and Glory brand.  The pot is a nice size and I like that you can see the product through the transparent sides of the container.  You can see exactly what you are buying and how much product is left.

I will probably finish the pot of Sugar Crush Body Scrub but I doubt I will buy it again.  Instead I think I will stick to Flake Away which has the original scent or a different brand.

What are your thoughts on this Soap and Glory product? What body exfoliator would you recommend?

L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Smoky Eye Liner Review

L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Smoky Eye Liner

L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Smoky Eye Liner

L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Smoky Eye Liner

Hello Everyone!

I hope you're all well.  Things are still crazy busy for me at the moment as i'm trying to juggle work, life and revising and it's starting to take it's toll as I've felt under the weather the past few days.  Also, my wisdom teeth have decided to try and make an appearance all at the same time so it's pretty painful!

Anyway, enough rambling from me and onto today's blog post.  Today's review is on the L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Smoky Eye Liners.

I love the L'Oreal brand, in fact it is actually one of my favourite high street brands as their products are always a high quality and the packaging is gorgeous.  The Le Smoky eye liners are no exception.   The packaging is a simple double ended pencil with a gold trim which is simple yet sophisticated.  One end is the eye liner and the opposite end has a small hard sponge which is pretty good at smudging out the eyeliner to create a more smokey look.

These eye liners are available in a small variety of colours including:
  • Brown Fusion - A dark chocolate brown
  • Mystic Grey - A dark charcoal grey
  • Black Velour - A deep black
  • Purple Dream - A dark purple

I have the first three above  and regularly use all of them.  I really love that this range includes an alternative to black as I often don't want such an intense eye for a day time look and therefore using a brown or grey eyeliner is perfect.  I go through phases of loving pencil eyeliner or liquid/gel and at the moment it is definitely the former.  The Le Smoky eye liners are definitely my 'go to' eye liner for this look.

The formulation of the L'Oreal eye liners are very soft and creamy so they are very easy to apply, even in the water line and are perfect to create a smokey look as they are easy to blend.  I often find that creamy eye liners are a nightmare to sharpen as they just melt away but somehow the Le Smokey ones stay perfectly formed so are super easy to sharpen. This is great because you have as little product wastage as possible. However, if you ever do find you struggle with sharpening, then pop your eye liner into the fridge or freezer and it will stiffen the product a little.

I also often find pencil eye liners can easily smudge after application and are not very long wearing but this isn't the case for the L'Oreal Colour Riche range. My eye liner easily lasts all day without any touch ups and doesn't move at all. This is perfect because I don't want to be worrying about my makeup moving and looking a mess.

Please ignore the state of my eyebrows.  The last time I got them threaded they made them uneven so I've been growing them out so when I got them done again it was easier to get them the same shape.  They look much better now, hurrah!

I love these eye liners and definitely think they are brilliant value for money.  This product is a permanent feature in my make-up bag!

You can buy the L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Smoky eye liners from Boots for £4.99.

What do you think of these eye liners?

Benefit Stay Flawless Event

Ice Bar Benefit Stay Flawless Event

Today I have a super exciting post for you as I was lucky enough to attend the Benefit Stay Flawless event this week.  I couldn't believe it when I saw the invite in my inbox and was so relieved that it was based in London in the evening so I didn't have to try and get time off work.  I could definitely go and was intrigued about what product was being launched.

The event was held in London at Below Zero, which is a bar next to Ice Bar and as soon as you walked in you could see the room filled with cute props and products.  Each table was decorated with tulips, a small pink clock (so cute), some Stay Flawless related props and a board with details about Twitter. We were greeted by the Benebabes and given a glass of Prosecco to start the evening.

Ice Bar Benefit Stay Flawless Event

The event began with a presentation by the lovely Benefit girls who each introduced themselves and spoke a little about their all time favourite Benefit products. This was followed by a brief talk about the history of the brand and some of the products.  For those of you who don't know, Benefit was founded in 1976 by two twin sisters, Jane and Jean who wanted to start a business.  They tossed a coin to decide whether this new enterprise would be casseroles or makeup and thankfully the latter won. They opened a tiny makeup boutique and 37 years we have the Benefit brand as it is today!

We then heard about the amazing achievements of the Benefit brand, one being the 'They're Real'  Mascara being THE number 1 premium makeup up product.  Following this we moved on to the star of the show.. the new product that is being launched.  This product is the Stay Flawless 15 hour primer and a demonstration was given by Lisa Potter-Dixon so we could see exactly how to apply it.

This long lasting primer acts like a magnet (a makeup magnet!) to lock your foundation to your skin for 15 fresh and flawless hours.  The packaging is cute (as it always is from Benefit) and is completely different from any primer I have seen before.  The innovative, invisible stick primer glides directly onto your skin so there is no need to use your fingers or brushes and it aims to give your skin a natural looking finish as well as making your makeup last longer.

After the demonstration we were able to try the primer ourselves, mingle with fellow beauty bloggers whist drinking and eating canapés and have a try of other products from the Benefit brand while we waited to go into the Ice Bar.  I wanted to go into the Ice Bar for ages so I was really looking forward and although this is going to sound stupid it is... COLD.. so much colder than you think but definitely an amazing experience.

I look like I have no neck in this photo haha!

The evening was completed with a final presentation and we were each handed a very generous goody bag containing our very own Stay Flawless Primer, Benefit’s Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Brightening foundation (we were each colour matched during the evening) and a brush. I've had great fun trying out these products this week and I can't wait to share my reviews on each of them with you once I've used them a little longer.

Thank you so much to the Benefit team for inviting me, I had an amazing time and met some lovely people. Check out their blogs :)

The Stay Flawless 15 hour primer is priced at £24.50 and will be available from the 29th June but seems to already be online on the Benefit website.  I will be writing up a review of this product next week so keep you eyes peeled!

OOTD Going to a gig

Hello Everyone!

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, I've been crazy busy with work and revision so I haven't had a lot of time to myself.  I did, however, have the chance to go out last Thursday to a gig (and luckily backstage) and have a well deserved break and here's what I wore:

OOTD Going to a gig

OOTD Going to a gig

What I'm wearing:

  • Skirt: This black skater style skirt is from New Look. I really like this because it's really versatile and has a subtle textured material so it isn't completely plain.
  • Top: This top is from Jane Norman.  It's really pretty and feminine because of the lace detailing at the top.
  • Shoes: These nude heels are from Kurt Geiger and I love them.  They go with loads of different outfits, are comfortable and are my 'go to' heels.
  • Bag: I've this this cute little clutch bag for ages and I use it a lot.  It has pretty satin material with a rouched effect on the front so it isn't completely plain although it is pretty small so you can't fit that much in it!

What do you think of this outfit?

Bio Oil Review

Hello Everyone!

I hope you're all well.  It is has been a crazy week so sadly I haven't had much time to blog, sorry about that! After the bank holiday weekend I had an extra day off work which was nice and then I've spent the rest of my week working, wardrobe hunting and revising.  I thought I had sat my last exam once I finished uni but how wrong I was! It's proving to be pretty difficult to work full time plus revise and have a life. At the moment the latter isn't really happening but I did have a chance to look at a few wardrobes for our spare room.  We've decided to turn it into a second lounge so we have a bit more space so I get to shop for housey things (yay!) but we still need wardrobes in there as storage space is limited.  It turns out the ones we wanted were very expensive so it's been a bit stressful thinking of a different plan of action.

The Product

Anyway, enough rambling and onto today's post, a review of Bio Oil. I have always been intrigued by Bio Oil as I have a few minor stretch marks from growing up that I've always felt self conscience about and I also seem to scar very easily. Every time I have seen Bio Oil advertised I have wanted to give it a try but the only thing stopping me was the price tag as I've been watching the pennies and was wary of paying £8.99 for something which may not work.  This is something I now regret.

Bio Oil, like the name suggests is an oil-based formula which has a beautiful floral scent thanks to the lavender, rosemary and chamomile ingredients included in it.  The fragrance is not overpowering and stays on my skin for a short time after application.  I can also smell more woody, spicy notes when I first apply this product which reminds me of Christmas but they soon pass and leave the oil smelling very floral which are more Spring like.

As I seem to say in a lot of my reviews, a little of this product goes a long way and although it is oil-based, if you are careful with the amount you use, this light formula absorbs quickly into your skin and isn't greasy at all (not even on my hands after application). In fact, I have found it absorbs much quicker than some body butters I own which for me is great because as I've said before, with having a busy lifestyle I'm not that patient when it comes to skincare!

I have been using Bio Oil twice daily for roughly seven weeks and I have already noticed a difference.  Firstly, my stretch marks and scar are a lot less visible and secondly my skin feels soft and moisturised.  The packaging does recommend using this product for a minimum of three months so I am very impressed that I have seen results so soon. I can't wait to see the difference in another month or so.

I've always thought of Bio Oil being used simply to reduce the look of scarring and stretch marks but it actually does a lot more than that.  Bio Oil can be used on aging skin, dehydrated skin or for uneven skin tone too so it is a great multiple purpose product that is suitable for a variety of ages.  Some of the ingredients included in Bio Oil are:

  • Vitamin A – helps improve the skin’s elasticity, texture and tone
  • Vitamin E – The most widely used antioxidant in skincare products today, Vitamin E increases the moisture content of the epidermis, thereby making the skin softer, smoother and more supple. Vitamin E also assists in the maintenance of healthy-looking skin
  • Calendula Oil – Calendula Officinalis, more commonly referred to as marigold, has been used for centuries as a natural antioxidant and has the ability to clarify and stimulates the growth of new skin cells
  • Lavender Oil – Lavender oil is widely known for calming and soothing benefits
  • Rosemary Oil – Rosemary oil helps to invigorate and it has a mild antiseptic capabilities and thus eases congestion, puffiness and swelling of the skin
  • Chamomile Oil – Chamomile has a calming and soothing effect and is particularly beneficial for sensitive skin

  • The packaging of Bio Oil is sleek and simple.   I love the dinky bottle as it doesn't take up too much space and it is the perfect shape for storage.  I also like that this pretty pink/peach oil is shown off to it's full as the packaging is completely transparent except for the labelling and lid.

I really enjoy using this product and it is a great alternative to your typical moisturiser.  It's something which has been slotted into my daily skincare routine and personally I think this product is worth the price tag.  It is actually great value for money as it has a number of uses and is very versatile.  For instance, instead of applying this oil directly to your skin you can also add it into the bath or your other moisturisers to make your skin lovely and soft.

Bio Oil is available in three different prices and is widely available.  The prices at Boots are:
    • 60ml - £8.99
    • 125ml - £14.99
    • 200ml - £19.99
More information about Bio Oil can also be found on the Facebook Page.

    The Campaign - Skin Stories

As a quick side note (I know this blog post is  getting pretty long) Bio Oil are running a brilliant skincare campaign that I wanted to share with you.  It is called Skin Stories and aims to encourage women to talk about their skin issues.

Skin is the biggest organ in your body and everyone at one time or another will suffer from something whether it be scarring, spots, stretch marks, uneven skin tone etc but it is often an area people feel self conscience about or afraid to share.  I have experienced this myself as some friends thought I was brave for writing this blog post telling the world that yes I'm human and yes I do have stretch marks (probably like the majority of people in this world).  But it just goes to show, it not a bad thing and it's not a topic you should be scared about discussing, you'll probably find a lot of people are the same as you!

Bio-Oil launched the ‘Skin Stories’ campaign on the 15th April in a bid to improve skin and body confidence in time for summer. For every story shared, Bio-Oil will donate £1 to one of three charities - the British Skin Foundation, cancer support charity Look Good Feel Better and the Iolanthe Midwifery Trust, who provide funding for midwifery education, practice and research. Stories can be submitted via the Bio-Oil Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/biooiluk) and on Twitter (@Bio-OilUK using the hash tag #myskinstory).

For more information on the campaign go to the skin stories website.

What do you think of Bio Oil and the Campaign? Will you be sharing your skin story?
