Monthly Round Up | July Posts

July Post Round Up
Yet another month has passed and we are well into the Summer here in the UK. We've been having some really beautiful weather here although I've been at work most of the time so I haven't been able to enjoy it as much as I would like. Anyway, today's post is all about a monthly round up of my eight favourite posts from the past month. Here they are:

It's not easy juggling and job and blogging at the same time so I decided to write a blog post all about it. I spoke about the tips I have discovered over the past eighteen months and what I do in order to ensure I regularly post and communicate with my readers. It's definitely a challenge and varies week on week depending on what else I need to fit in my personal life or events I am attending but there are some set things I follow to make sure I get everything done.

An exciting blog post I shared this month was about my all time favourite lip products. There were 10 in total and covered a range of finishes, colours and brands. I really enjoyed taking the pictures for this post as well as writing it.

A few months ago I started my 'Things I Wish I'd Known About Blogging' series and this month saw post number four go live. This features a few things I have learnt since I started blogging but would have been really useful to know when I had first started out.

Makeup Revolution is a really brilliant online affordable brand which I discovered through blogging. They have a whole host of products on offer and I have been very impressed with all of the ones I have tried. Check out my haul in this post.

During the end of June and July I found I was suffering from dry skin so I was on the look out for a new product to help with this. The one I turned to was the Origins Drink Up Intensive Face Mask that you use overnight and I was blown away by the results. This month I wrote a review all about it so I could share it with you.

I splashed out on a luxurious purchase this month, my very first Mulberry bag! I absolutely adore it and have shared all the details with you in this blog post.

A monthly round up wouldn't be complete if if didn't feature a Lush product and July saw one I was given to me by my best friend. The French Kiss Bubble Bar is perfect for relaxing because it smells of lavender, it looks gorgeous and can be used multiple times.. what more could you ask for?

Last but not least, there was a fashion related blog post featuring a gorgeous bikini from Lauren Pearl. I'm a little addicted to bikini's so was really pleased to discover this brand and this particular one has a really unusual tropical print that I love.

What was your favourite post on Kimberley's Beauty Blog this month?

Lifestyle | Bucket List

My Bucket List

Today's post is a lifestyle focused one and is something I came across on a blog a few weeks ago. I've never thought about doing a bucket list before but it seems like such an obvious idea and something I wish I had thought of sooner.

The beauty of bucket lists is that you can make them whatever you want them to be so they can be completely random or themed. My bucket list is going to include a whole host of things that I want to do/achieve this year which I will re-visit at a later date to see if I have done them. I guess it's similar to a New Years resolution but not as strict and it's not necessarily about depriving you of things.

Anyway, here is my bucket list........

1. To go on holiday to a sunny destination
2. To increase my blog page views by at least 2,000 per month
3. To get a pay rise at work
4. To plan more days out with my boyfriend
5. To learn to switch off from work
6. To do regular exercise that I enjoy
7. Experiment with more varied hair styles
8. To lose some weight - just a few pounds
9. To straighten my hair no more than twice a month
10. To complete the entire series of Breaking Bad, Orange is the New Black, Nashville and House of Cards

What do you think of my bucket list? What would be on yours?

Blogging | Things I Wish I'd Known About Blogging Part 4

Things I Wish I'd Known About Blogging

When my blog had it's first birthday I began to think about how far it had come so started a mini series called 'Thing's I Wish I'd Known About Blogging'. This is basically a collection of blog posts including useful information, tools and blogging techniques I have discovered during the time I have been blogging which would have been really useful to me if I'd known about them sooner. This is part 4 in that series and you can read the others here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Until recently I hadn't even heard of the term SEO but now every where I turn it seems to be mentioned. It first came up at a blog event last year but for bloggers this now seems to be the hot topic and something which is important to understand if you want your blog to stand out and grow.

I'm by no means and expert when it comes to SEO but basically the point of it is to improve the content of your blog posts and photo's so they are picked up by search engines. You can do this in a variety of ways. For example, by making your title descriptive, adding keywords in your blog posts and adding image alt tags.

Building Relationships with Brands

Building relationships with brands is a side of blogging a lot of people are interested in but it isn't actually something I even knew happened until I had been blogging a few months. Even after blogging for nearly two years I am amazed that this even happens and I think it's so lovely that brands are interested in our opinions on their products.

During my time of blogging so far I have been introduced to lots of amazing brands I never knew existed as well as some I already loved and those relationships where built up initially through email or Twitter. Both, particularly the former, are great for communicating and when you are approached by a company it is the best feeling. To build up relationships make sure you are polite and provide all of the necessary information the company may need. This really varies so don't be worried if sometimes you are asked for social media links or stats and other times not, it is really down to what the company needs in order to make a decision whether to work with you or not.

When speaking with PR companies or the brands themselves don't be afraid to ask questions to find out more about the brand and products. Most of the time they are happy to help and this is a really great way to discover new brands.. I actually found some of my favourite brands this way!

Twitter Chats

I've mentioned before how important Twitter is when it comes to blogging and I just wanted to re-iterate the point here. The best way to interact on Twitter is to join in with the weekly chats, my favourite being the #bbloggers chats which take place on Wed and Sun 8-9pm UK time. They are a really great way to get to know other bloggers, learn more about beauty, discover new products and advertise your posts.

What to Review

Choosing what to include on your blog is really important because you need to make sure it's fitting with the content of your blog. Of course it's your own space but you need to make sure you remember who your audience are and stay focused on what they want to see. My blog is definitely mostly orientated around beauty but I also write about lifestyle, fashion, candles, food, accessories and more because those are all areas I also have an interest in too. Don't be afraid to venture into other areas just make sure you don't always deviate away from your main focus. For instance, my blog is 'Kimberley's Beauty Blog'. If every post I did for a month was fashion related I would have lost my main focal point of beauty.. the giveaway is in my name. This may seem obvious but I've seen a lot of blogs do this and lose track of their identity.

Also, another point I want to make about 'what to review' is related to PR samples. Don't feel pressured to say yes to every product you are offered to review. Again, think about the focus of your blog and if you're actually interested in it. It's okay to politely decline rather than write about a product you aren't interested in or passionate about because it will come across in your writing.

Continuous Improvement

Some people think your blog should be perfect from day one but the important thing to remember is that it will naturally grow as you do. You can't be expected to know your layout and writing style from the very start or to be an expert with photography and infact some of my favourite blogs are where you can see how they have grown and improved over time. I find them more interesting and I really respect those bloggers because they have looked to improve what they are doing and turn their blog into something they are really proud of.

Advertising on other Blogs

It was pretty late in the day when I realised you could actually advertise your blog by being on others. I had been featured in some people's sidebars but that was more of a swap or just because they wanted to rather than paid advertising but in hindsight I definitely would have wanted to advertise on other blogs when I was first starting out. This is still something I would do now but I think it would have been particularly beneficial at the beginning in order to raise awareness of my blog and also to get to know other bloggers better.

I offer five advertising packages on my blog ranging from £3 - £10 and I love it. Not only does it mean I get to discover new blogs but I also get to share them with all of you. Definitely check out the bloggers and business's in my sidebar guys.. they are great!

If you want to book one of my ad spaces pop me an email to details on all of them are here.

Do you think this post is useful? What have you learnt about blogging?

Review | My All Time Favourite Lipsticks

!My !My !My !My !My !My

Hello Beauties, in today's post I will be sharing my all time favourite lipsticks. These are the ones that I reach for most often and can be described as my 'go to' lipsticks.  In most cases these are lip products I tend to wear all year round too because I love them so much. Of course from time to time I wear others too but without doubt these are my favourites.  Here's a little more about each of them.

First is MAC Girl About Town a pretty bright pink which is rich with deep pigmentation and blue toned. I like this lipstick because firstly the shade suits my skin tone well whether I'm on the paler side or sporting more of a golden glow. It also makes my teeth look whiter which is an added bonus. The formulation is soft, smooth and creamy because the finish is a Cremesheen, my favourite finish from MAC and this lipstick is not at all drying. Despite the colour being bright it also doesn't bleed so there is no need to wear a lip pencil.

Next is the MAC Rebel which in the black bullet casing looks like a scary dark shade but when it is swatched it is in fact a deep berry shade which looks gorgeous with a smokey eye in the evening. I really love this lipstick because it's different to any others in my collection and the formula is creamy and hydrating on my lips so it is comfortable to wear. The finish is Satin.

One of my favourite brands for lipstick is up next and that is Chanel. I love their timeless packaging because the simple black and gold looks elegant and expensive.  The shade, Le Braiser,  is what I would describe as a mid-toned pink because it isn't a pale nude but at the same time isn't a bright pink like Girl About Town so it's perfect to wear during the day or evening when you want a pop of colour on your lips but nothing too in your face. This pretty shade from the Rouge Coco range is very easy to wear and the flawless formula is soft, creamy and luxurious meaning it feels very hydrating on the lips. I love it.

Next is the first of three YSL lipsticks, again one of my all time favourite lipstick brands and that is number 60 from the Rouge Pur Couture range which means the package is a chunky gold case which the YSL brand simply stamped on the front. This packaging feels expensive and can be doubled up as a handy mirror but isn't my favourite as I do prefer the Rouge Volupte Shine range as it's so delicate. The formula smells sweet and fruity and again is super creamy and soft so it feels moisturising on my lips. The shade is also a really deep pink that has a gorgeous shine and glides over the lips perfectly. This lipstick also has SPF 15.

The second YSL lipstick I have is from the Rouge Volupte Shine Collection and this is number 5 a rich berry pink that has a very glossy finish. This is a darker pink than MAC Girl About Town and shiner but both are equally as beautiful. As for the formulation, it's very creamy and hydrating so it applies like a dream.  The packaging is also stunning because it has the pretty gold casing and intricate detailing in the middle giving a hint of colour with the brand entwined inbetween.

The last YSL lipstick is another from the Rouge Volupte Shine range and that is Number 8 a pretty pink/nude which is really easy to wear. This shade looks beautiful when teamed with simple day time makeup or a heavier look in the evening. The finish again, is high shine and the formula is very hydrating. This is probably my most worn lipstick out of all the ones features here because it goes with any makeup look I wear, the formula is comfortable to wear and it can easily be applied on the go.

Soap and Glory Bashful is next on my list and is from the Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick range. I love these lip products because the formula again is soft and hydrating, it applies well and can easily be re-applied throughout the day without going patchy. The formula isn't sticky in the slightest and this pretty pink/nude shade can easily be applied on the go without a mirror. It is actually a very close dupe for the number 8 YSL lipstick as you can read in my post here.

*Clinique Super Strawberry from the Chubby Stick range is next on my list and is another great go to product because it is a 'your lips but better' product. It can easily be applied on the go and again is very moisturing on the lips. It has a sheer coverage but is buildable so you can make the colour as dark as you like and I like the retractable packaging.

I'm a big fan of Urban Decay products and their lip products are no exception. The Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Colours are stunning. The formula is so smooth and creamy it literally melts onto your lips and they have a beautiful shimmer running throughout them which make your lips look full and plump. As the formula is so moisturing it is very comfortable to wear and the shade Love Child is a pretty pink/nude which is really easy to wear and apply on the go. The only down point is that you have to sharpen them which can be pretty messy and wasteful.

Last but not least is another Clinique Chubby Stick but this time in the shade Woppin' Watermelon. This is a light pink shade which adds a really subtle baby pink colour to the lips and looks lovely with subtle makeup during the day. It is the perfect lip colour to wear if you want to wear a lip product but don't want anything too heavy or over the top.

I love each and every one of these lip products and really enjoyed sharing them with you all in today's post. I hope you enjoyed reading :)

What do you think of my picks? What are your all time favourite lipsticks?

Lifestyle | Things to Be Thankful For

5 Things I am Thankful For

Hello Everyone, how are you all? Things are a little bit difficult at the moment in my personal life so I thought I would write a positive post about five things I am thankful for. Sometimes it can be so easy to focus on worries and to help get me through I thought this post would be good to get me to focus on the good things in life. Here are 5 things I am thankful for:

1. Loving and Supportive Family and Friends

I am very lucky that I have an incredible support network around me. I am from a big family (my nan is one of 14 and my grandad one of 12) but I am very close to my immediate family (mum, dad, brother, nan). We are always there through the good and bad and no matter what is going on most of the time we manage to find something to laugh and joke about.

I am also very lucky to have a supportive boyfriend who does an awful lot for me and also my best friends Lizi and Emma who I have both known since we were 4. I can talk to them about anything and they always know exactly what to say and do to make things better!

2. The Blogging Community

Blogging is a huge part of my life and to be honest it's become much bigger than I thought when I initially started. Back then I thought it would be a part time hobby and I'd post occasionally but I never imagined meeting so many amazing people, making friends, discovering so many great brands and attending events. It has become so much more than I ever thought.

Blogging is also a really great outlet for me as it's so different from my day job as a business analyst. It is the perfect way for me to unwind after a busy day and have something else to focus on. It's scary to think I very nearly didn't start it!

3. My Lovable Pets

It may sound crazy to those of you who don't have pets but I can't explain how much love and happiness they bring into my life. I have a four year old dog called Ruby (Read Ruby's Story here) a Syrian Hamster named Coco (after Coco Chanel) and some fish and each and every one of them make me so happy. Even when you're feeling down one look from Ruby or Coco will instantly cheer you up and the fish are so relaxing to watch.

4. Having a Good Career and Future Possibilities

When I graduated from University 4 years ago (it really doesn't really like that long ago) I was lucky enough to find a job very quickly as a Business Analyst which is something I had wanted to do since being in the sixth form.

I joined the two year graduate scheme which didn't guarantee a job at the end of it but at that point I never would have imagined that just 3 1/2 years later I would not only be a fully fledged Business Analyst but also a running my own team of 14 people. I am very grateful for the opportunities I have been given and look forward to what the future holds.

5. Possessions

I know this one is very materialistic but all the same I am very thankful for all the possessions I have whether it be my clothes. makeup or other things. I realise I am very lucky to have been given some of these things or be in a position where I can buy them myself and although they aren't the important things in life they do bring me joy.

What are you thankful for?
