Favourites | January Favourites

January Favourites feat Rimmel, Origins, MAC, Too Faced, Amazing Cosmetics and Maybelline

It's that time again when I share my favourite products with you beauties and this month is a good one.  It includes some re-discoveries, new products and some old time favourites and is a post I have been looking forward to writing for a while as I missed out on my yearly round up of favourites as I wasn't well enough to write it (boooo). Anyway, hopefully I will make up for it this month! Here we go....

January Favourites feat Rimmel, Origins, MAC, Too Faced, Amazing Cosmetics and Maybelline

I re-discovered my Wake Me Up foundation at the beginning of January as I fancied a change. I didn't realise I had only been using either my Nars Sheer Glow or Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua for the past year so it was about time I switched things up and tried something different.

After being unwell my skin had become a little dry and was looking dull as I hadn't been using any of my trusty beauty products for weeks so it really needed a boost. The first product that came to mind was Rimmel Wake Me Up. This product is known for giving the skin an illuminating glow and without doubt it does that. My skin looks more hydrated and healthy when it is applied. The formula is smooth and creamy too so it glides beautifully over my skin and blends in well, giving medium-full coverage whilst still feeling light.  I just wish at times it wasn't quite so orange toned.

I forgot how nice this foundation was!

Another product I re-discovered during January was my Maybelline Color Tattoo in On and On Bronze. This cream eyeshadow is brilliant and I actually prefer it to some of the higher end products available. It blends beautifully over my eye lids and blends out well as it doesn't dry too quickly but when it does it stays in place all day without creasing or fading.

One and On bronze is also a beautifully easy to wear shade for both day and evening looks. It has a pretty shimmer running through it which lightens it up and leans more towards a grey/taupe than bronze which I actually prefer.

January Favourites feat Rimmel, Origins, MAC, Too Faced, Amazing Cosmetics and Maybelline

One of my all time favourite lipsticks is Rebel by MAC, a rich berry tone which can be worn both during the day and evening. I particularly like wearing it with a neutral smokey eye with black liner as it really makes my lips stand out.

If I'm honest the formulation of MAC lipsticks aren't my favourite on the market as I can find them a little drying at times but Rebel is one of the better ones. It applies smoothly, is very pigmented and is pretty comfortable to wear and long lasting

January Favourites feat Rimmel, Origins, MAC, Too Faced, Amazing Cosmetics and Maybelline

As mentioned above my skin has been suffering from neglect a little lately but one of my saviours has been the Origins Drink It Up Face Mask. Whenever my skin needs a boost I use this product a few times a week and after just a couple of applications I can see a difference.

Despite the name suggesting this is a face mask it more like an overnight moisturiser. Unlike other face masks you don't have to clean it off, instead you leave it to soak into your skin while you sleep. In the morning your skin is left feeling soft, smooth, hydrated and glowing.

January Favourites feat Rimmel, Origins, MAC, Too Faced, Amazing Cosmetics and Maybelline

Without doubt this is the best mascara I have ever used. The colour is very black so it makes my lashes stand out, it gives them volume and length by separating each individual lash without making them look spidery and it doesn't smudge. I love this mascara so much I will be wearing it to my wedding!

January Favourites feat Rimmel, Origins, MAC, Too Faced, Amazing Cosmetics and Maybelline

When I first used this concealer I was a little sceptical about how good it could be for the price, afterall £19.50 is very pricey for a tiny 6ml product that I'd use daily. I'm glad to say I was pleasantly suprised, though. I have used the Amazing Cosmetics concealer for several months now and I love it, in fact it has now become my 'go to' concealer.

This concealer is brilliant on blemishes and covers them up in an instant due to to it's highly pigmented formula which is also very long lasting. It is very thick which means only a tiny amount is needed (less than any other product I have used) but it blends extremely well thanks to the creamy, smooth formula. I also use this concealer under my eyes to cover dark circles which again it is very good at but a little on the heavy side.

What do you think of my favourites?

Lifestyle | Valentines Gift Ideas For Him

Valentines Gift Ideas for Him

Hello Beauties! Valentines Day is fast approaching so I thought I would write a blog post on some gift ideas for the loved ones in your lives. There will be two posts, one directed towards gifts for him and the others gifts for her.

I write this post annually and always have a lot of fun hunting around looking for gift ideas, this year was no exception. I've thrown in a couple of 'typical' lovey dovey gifts but have also tried to think outside the box so have also suggested some gifts that aren't strictly Valentines but would hopefully appeal to the men in your lives.

Each year my Fiance and I vary the gifts we get each other. Sometimes we go for soppy gifts and other times we choose to get things that are a little more practical and presents we actually need. When putting together this post my Fiance was my main inspiration as I basically thought of gifts he would like and ones that I would consider buying him on this special (sometimes controversial) day of the year.

The selection of gifts I have chosen vary in price so they will suit a variety of budgets and I hope they will help you with your shopping! I've chosen several 'smellies' as these are always great gifts for men. My Fiance got the Jimmy Choo fragrance for Christmas from my parents and loved it, it's relatively new on the market too. I've also included a body wash and body spray, the latter having the signature Hollister scent that we all know and love.  Gifts focused a little more on your 'typical' Valentines theme is a gorgeous box of chocolates from Thorntons which only look delicious and but taste it too. They have a large variety availability so if these don't sound quite right take a look at the others on offer at the store. They also do some wonderful personalised gifts for that extra special touch. I have also chosen a heat changing mug covered in hearts which reveals a message which I thought was pretty cool! Last but not least are some leather goods including a travel holder, bag and belt which would be perfect to use all year around.

What will you be getting your loved one this Valentines Day?

Review | Two Faced Natural at Night Eyeshadow Palette

Too Faced Natural At Night Palette
Too Faced Natural At Night Palette
Too Faced Natural At Night Palette
Too Faced Natural At Night Palette

Two Faced is a brand that I have admired from afar for a long time but I only started using it last year.  They offer lots of stunning products and I was stuck where to start to be honest because I loved the look of their blushes, bronzers, lip products and eyeshadow palettes so instead of taking the plunge I took a long time umming and ahhing over what to get first.

It's turns out I actually got a mascara first as my good friend Rachel gave me one to try and it is incredible... definitely my all time favourite and the one I want to wear to my wedding in September! Anyway, I will save the details of that until another post because today I will be focusing on the gorgeous Natural at Night Palette.

If you are a fan of neutral eyeshadows and sparkle then this is the palette for you. It holds nine beautiful shades split into three sections, namely, 'Night', 'Classic' and 'Fashion'. All the shades, whether they are matte or shimmery are rich in colour as well as pigmentation plus the beautifully soft, creamy formula is very easy to work with and blendable. These eyeshadows are really lovely to apply and I love that they are no fuss. This means within a matter of minutes you can create a stunning makeup look which is perfect when doing your makeup for school or work. Of course, if you have a little more time on your hands you can also create amazing smokey looks with several colours combined.

The packaging of this product is simple and reminds me of Benefit but is simplier and less jazzy. I also like that hidden in the lid are some cards that give step by step tutorials which are really easy to follow. I love that they have really thought about all lovers of make-up here from beginners to more experienced.

I've been super impressed by this Two Faced eyeshadow palette and it is definitely up there with my go to shadows I reach for daily.

Review | Orla Kiely Wash Bag

Orla Kiely Wash Bag
Orla Kiely Wash Bag

Orla Kiely is most well known for their unique and creative designs that can be seen across the large array of products they offer ranging from mugs to cushions. I have often looked at them online or when out and about shopping and the most recent item that caught my eye is this gorgeous *wash bag that was launched last week.

The design of this wash bag is just beautiful. I love the girly hint of pink and the floral shapes against the contrasting navy and white background. It's girly, fun yet sophisticated and grown up too meaning this style would suit a whole range of people of different ages.

The material is thick, robust and can be washed down so is perfect for a wash bag that can often get damp and I actually love using this as a makeup bag too. This is the medium size so has a little pocket in the inside which is perfect to store ear buds and makeup pads. It also has a large pocket on the front where other items can be stored, I usually keep my most used items in here like my lipstick so I can easily access it on the go. I love that this versatile bag is the perfect size to double up as a makeup bag and wash bag so I can get lots of use out of it. This pattern is just too gorgeous to not make the most of it!

This range of Orla Kiely Wash Bags is available from John Lewis in three different sizes (small, medium and large). Each and every one of them is gorgeous. The medium which is pictured here is £26.00.

Review | My NARS Blush Collection

My NARS Blush Collection
My NARS Blush Collection

NARS is an amazing makeup brand, in fact it is one of my favourites and if I had to pick just one make up brand to use this would probably be it. Their products are brilliant quality and so far I've been really lucky and loved everything I have tried.

Today I want to share my blush collection with you. It's not particularly big but these are all 'go to' shades that I wear on a regular basis and have done for the past couple of years.

My NARS Blush Collection: Sin

This is a beautiful plum blush that has a subtle gold shimmer running through it and is one of the most popular shades sold. It is the perfect blush to wear in Autumn and Winter and goes brilliantly with berry lips and for me it makes a real change to your typical pinks and peaches.

In the pan Sin doesn't look like anything special to most people but that's what I love most about it. It's not until you apply it you realise how beautiful it is. The shade gives you a natural flush and warms the skin so it is very flattering and although it is well pigmented it is easy to work with if you are careful with how much the brush picks up. The soft texture isn't as dry as some other powder blushes in my collection such as Benefit but it isn't super creamy either, not that it matters because it blends beautifully and easily stays in place all day.

Sin is a blush that can be easily used every day and it looks great in the evening with a dark lip and smokey eye too. It's very versatile and is a shade I think deserves more hype than it gets.

My NARS Blush Collection: Amour

Amour is a pretty rosy pink shade that has a subtle shimmer through it which gives my cheeks a healthy glow. It is highly pigmented so needs to be used with caution so you don't end up looking like a clown but the end result is lovely. It makes my cheeks look flushed and looks gorgeous with a simple nude lip during Spring and Summer although is is a shade that can easily be worn all year round.

The texture of Amour is the same as Sin so it is a little on the dry side but again is very blendable.  It needs more attention than Sin but is still a shade I find pretty easy to work with and is great for every day as it's long lasting.

Personally I think this shade wouldn't be suitable for those with a very pale skin tone.

My NARS Blush Collection: Deep Throat

Deep Throat is the first Nars blush I bought and is my most worn as it's such an easy to wear shade. It is paler than Amour, being slightly more peachy toned and has a gold shimmer running through it which gives my cheeks a healthy glow.

The pigmentation is very good so just one swipe with my brush is plenty to cover and blend onto both cheeks and again it stays in place all day without moving. The shade is also great because it goes with a large variety of makeup looks so I can easily reach for this blush every day if I want to.

I hope you enjoyed this post about my NARS blush collection. It is an expensive brand but I think the products are such a good quality it really is worth it. They also seem to be never ending. I use mine regularly it looks like I've barely touched them!

If you want to see some similar posts like this let me know, I had fun putting this one together.

What do you think of my NARS Blush collection? Do you have any recommendations?

Review | Lush Snow Angel

Lush Snow Angel
Lush Snow Angel
Lush Snow Angel
[sorry about the chipped nail polish]

Regular readers of my blog will know how much I love Lush and one of my favourite products is Lush Snow Angel.

I first smelt Snow Angel at an Lush event I went to a few months ago and have loved it ever since. It seems to have been a popular product for Lush this year too as I had a lot of trouble getting hold of any in the run up to Christmas as everywhere was sold out.

When I spotted them on the Lush website on Boxing Day I was so happy and popped three in my basket. I love this bath melt because it leaves my skin soft and nourished due to the cocoa butter that contributes to this deliciously creamy formula. Other ingredients include cassis absolute, floral scents and of course gold glitter which goes everywhere while you're handling it but doesn't stick to your skin in the bath thankfully.

The scent of Snow Angel is gorgeous too. It's fresh, floral and sweet making it warming. It's actually the same as the limited edition Christmas soap Snow Cake which I also love although I missed out on getting one of those this year.

I really hope they bring back Snow Angel next Christmas.... I will definitely be purchasing a few of them if they do!

Have you tried Lush Snow Angel?

Review | Ozeri 4x3 Razor Digital 3D Pedometer

Ozeri Pedometer

January is the time of year when most people decide it's time to get fit and healthy. You can't blame them after all the indulgence at Christmas and what better New Years Resolution to have than to get into shape? This is definitely something I'm keen to do, not because I ate a lot over Christmas in fact due to being poorly I barely ate anything but as I'm getting married in September I'm keen to tone up, and lost a little weight but most importantly get healthy.

This is easier said than done though as I have a high pressure job which involves working long hours which vary day to day. I can't really plan ahead when I can fit in exercise, it really comes down to what is happening on the day which obviously makes things a bit harder. I find things so much easier to stick to when you can get into a routine. This is why I'm trying to introduce things into my routine that I can realistically stick to. One of these is walking more.

Instead of buying a gym membership (which is so tempting because I love going to the gym) I'm going to try walking more and jogging. This way if I can't do it as many times a week as I'd like I haven't lost any money but at the same time I'm also doing something to help me get fit and healthy. This is where today's product becomes important because if I'm honest I find that kind of exercise boring. I'd much rather be down the gym for an hour or so, so I need something to keep me motivated to push myself and I think the *Ozeri pedometer really helps with this.

The Ozeri Pedometer is very light-weight and compact so I don't even realise I'm wearing it. Plus as well as simply recording the number of steps I take per day, it keeps these for 7 days so I can compare how I have done and it also informs me of the distance and calories burnt too. This really motivates me because each day/week I want to do more than the last.

If you want to buy this pedometer it is available at Amazon for £38.80

What are you doing to get fit and healthy?

Review | Ozeri Rev Digital Bathroom Scales

Ozeri Rev Digital Bathroom Scale
Ozeri Rev Digital Bathroom Scale

This is the first of two health and fitness inspired blog posts today as being January it's very much at the front of everyone's mind. I'm keen to get fit and healthy this year as I'm getting married in September so want to be looking and feeling my best. I'm going to start eating more healthily, cut down on portions and also introduce more exercise into my weekly routine. This means I hope to lose a little weight, tone up and just generally have more energy and feel healthy.

The start to this is having the right weighing scales in the bathroom and the ones I have been using are the *Ozeri Rev Digital Bathroom Scales. I like these firstly because they have a sleek modern look and can easily be stored away as they are slim and light-weight. They also feature both a traditional electro-mechanical dial as well as a large LCD screen which not only looks pretty cool but will appeal to a wider audience. Both of these light up when in use too so it makes it very easy to read.

Sadly, you can only weigh yourself in pounds (lbs) or killograms (kg) rather than stone and pounds which may be a downside to some people. In the past I have been used to the latter but you soon adapt and now I'm getting used to knowing what my weight is without having to do a conversion online. This scales also have the added feature of sporting an alarm which will remind you to weigh yourself at the same time every day. These means you can do a more accurate comparison of weight gain, however I've never felt the need to use this function as I don't like to weigh myself as often as that (you can turn it on and off as you please).

You can buy these bathroom weighing scales from Amazon for £19.99. These scales need three AAA batteries which come included.

Beauty | My Lush Valentines Wish List

Lush Valentines Wish List

Valentines Day is fast approaching and that means there is a brand new limited edition collection of treats on offer from Lush. I love seeing old favourite's back on the shelves as well as new ones to try and have picked some of the products that have caught my eye to include in this post.

Firstly is Heart Throb, a bright red Bubble Bar which is full of essential oils, shea butter and glitter. It smells the same as the African Paradise Body Conditioner if you are familiar with that and looks like an adorable little product I've never seen before.

The second heart product that caught my eye is the Lonely Heart Bubble Bar because it looks stunning covered in gold glitter. It reminds me of the golden eggs that were released as part of the Limited Edition Easter Collection last year which I was a big fan of but this one has a twist as it makes your bath turn red.

Prince Charming Shower Gel has made a return this year and is a gorgeous sweet product with a thick formula. The ingredients include marshmallow root, Fair Trade vanilla and pomegranet which when mixed together make an unusual yet gorgeous scent.

Next another product which has been featured in the limited edition Valentines range before and that is the Love Locket. This price of this is much higher than your average bath bomb but personally I think it's worth every penny. Not only is it very cute and smells amazing but as it's pretty big you can get several baths out of it and there are smaller bath bombs and a secret hidden inside too.

Next is a brand new product called the Unicorn Bubble Bar which is amazing. As you would expect it is cone shaped and multi-coloured which makes it look super fun and girly. This bubble bar is full of candy stars, sparkling lustre and essential oils such as lavender, neroli and ylang ylang. This product is so colourful it reminds me of sunshine and rainbows

Last but not least is the Lots of Love Gift Box which includes seven of the most popular Valentines products. These are, Pearl Massage Bar, Prince Charming Shower Gel, Love Locket bath bomb, Heart Throb Bubble Bar, Lonely Heart Bubble Bar, Sex Bomb Bath Bomb and Cupid's Love Soap. This is a really great selection of products and I'm sure any fans of Lush would absolutely love to have this as a gift. The packaging is also super cute too!

Review | Bath and Body Works Marshmallow Fireside Candle

Bath and Body Works Marshmallow Fireside
Bath and Body Works Marshmallow Fireside

Since seeing Fleur de Force rave about a Bath and Body Works candle in one of her videos I have been itching to try one but unfortunately they aren't as easy to get hold of in the UK as they are in the US. I'd seen them on Amazon at the staggering price of £50 compared to $25.50 or less (they are often discounted or on special offers) but wasn't willing to pay as much as that. They also weigh too much for friends who have been to the US to bring them back so when I found them on eBay for a much more reasonable price of £18 I was really happy.

One obvious issue of buying online is that you can't actually smell the candles first which is a risk but in the past I've tried other things Fleur has recommended and I've liked them too so I decided to take the plunge and purchase one of her favourites.

The candle I choose has three wicks and is called Fireside Marshmallow... it smells incredible!! It's sweet but not too sweet and has a hint of vanilla which I love. It's one of those scents that is so delicious you just want to sit with the candle up to your nose smelling it... I LOVE it.

As for the packaging? I really like it. The glass tub is far shorter and wider than the large Yankee Candle Jars which works really well and is it's transparent you can see the flicker of the flame which adds to the atmosphere and is relaxing. The lid is also super cute as it's gold and has two delicate leaves on the side.

I will definitely be purchasing more of these candles!

If you want to view more Bath and Body Works candles you can view them here.

Review | Babyliss Waving Wand

Babyliss Waving Wand
Babyliss Waving Wand
Babyliss Waving Wand
Babyliss Waving Wand

Today's post is about my favourite ever styling tool, the Babyliss Waving Wand. I got this for Christmas 2013 and I have used it a huge amount since then, it's definitely my go to tool for curls and I'm suprised it hasn't featured on my blog sooner as I rave about it all the time to people.

I have naturally curly hair but to achieve that it takes a long time to let it dry naturally and I have to keep applying product to stop it from going frizzy and unmanageable so I find it far easier to simply wash, blow dry and curl my hair using a tool. The kind of curls I like are big, natural loose curls that look effortless and you can achieve this easily with the Babyliss Waving Wand.

The shape is very unusual as it's is like a rounded rectangle rather than your typical round barrel or conical wand and it heats to varying degrees which is perfect as everyone's hair is different. I tend to use the 150 degree setting and use the tool on freshly blow dried hair but also for touch ups the following day (although this is rarely ever needed).  I simply spray a little heat protect spray onto my hair (usually VO5 Heat Defense spray - it is amazing), and then divide my hair into large sections which accounts to eight in total. I use the wand the same as any other tool by wrapping my hair around it, holding it for around ten seconds and the unraveling my curl. Once they are all done I then apply Moroccan Oil to add a little definition and brush the curls out so they look more natural. Over time, they drop a little but not too much so the look is maintained and as I have naturally curly hair they hold extremely well and I rarely use hairspray (if I do I love Urban Fudge Raspberry and Vanilla).

The Babyliss Waving Wand  allows you to effortlessly create natural curls and I LOVE it. It's definitely the best curling tool I have ever used.

What is your favourite styling tool? What do you think of the Babyless Waving Wand?
