Wedding | Summer Pampering

Harrods The Moroccan Hammam Urban Retreat Spa

As my wedding day is fast approaching something I have been thinking about more and more is some well deserved pampering. By this I don't mean chilling at home with the television on doing a manicure, laying in the bath enjoying a hair mask or applying your own facial but instead a more in depth relaxation experience. I'm talking about a spa.

There's something about walking into a spa that instantly relaxes me. They have a calming ambiance that makes my stresses melt away which lets me truly unwind. Combine that with one of my all time favourite shops and I'm in heaven.

The Urban Retreat Moroccan Hammam Spa isn't a place I have visited yet but is definitely somewhere I intend to go. Based in the popular Knightsbridge area in London it's easy to get to and the treatments sound gorgeous. It is a female only space and the handcraft environment resembles regal Morocco which I think sounds lovely. I love that it's more unique than your typical spa and it feels more cultural and luxurious.

On arrival, at The Moroccan Hammam you experience three different rooms starting with a warm room to acclimatise your body to the heat. Following this you move onto the main hot hammam area where you are treated to a luxury cleansing and bathing ritual followed by a trip to the decadent lounge area to fully relax and enjoy some Moroccan tea which aims to restore and balance your fluid levels.

As well as this unique start to your pampering, The Moroccan Hamman also offers the more recognisable treatments such as massages and facials and I love the sound of their packaging. The half day Moroccan Hammam experience sounds amazing as you get a manicure, pedicure, blow dry, makeup application, massage and Indulgent Hammam plus afternoon tea or lunch.... it sounds incredible!

Without fail, in the run up to the wedding I will taking a trip to a spa so I can have a few hours to relax in the run up. It's easy to get tied up with everything that needs to be done and feel swamped - a feeling which is becoming more and more familiar of late and a relaxing spa visit is the perfect cure to relieve that.

If you fancy a trip to the Urban Retreat Moroccan Hamman Spa at Harrods take a look at their website for more details. Also, to find out more about what the Urban Retreat services and processes take a look at their website.

Review | Kiss Air Candles - Ice Cream Parlour Range

Kiss Air Candle Review
Kiss Air Candle Review
Kiss Air Candle Review

If you are a big candle fan like me the products mentioned in this blog post are a must try. I first tried Kiss Air Candles a couple of years ago when they had just launched and since then the company has really flourished. It's easy to understand why. Their reasonably priced candles are housed in adorable tin cases, each with a colourful label which makes them look simply adorable and the scents are gorgeous.

Lovingly handmade in Cambridgeshire, the candle range has quickly expanded and contains lots of gorgeous, unique scents including the Ice Cream Parlour Range. I just love the names given to the collections and the brand itself, Kiss Air Candles. They are adorable!

I have two candles from the range, namely Black Cherry and Rum and Raisin. Both are worlds apart but equally as delicious. Rum and Raisin reminds me of Summer days by the seaside. The scent is hearty, rich and sweet and without doubt smells good enough to eat. It has a strong hint of vanilla which fills the room and it lingers in the air for hours.

Black Cherry is also a gorgeous scent, and is one I often reach for when picking candles. I've had this scent before by other brands so I was keen to see how this one compares. Every sniff of this fragrance takes me back to my childhood when I used to spend my Summer holidays with my friends down the road enjoying the sun and playing games. Most days the ice cream van would pop by and I would pick a cherry ice - this candle smells like it's double. It is sweet and fruity but not overpowering. It also has depth and smells smooth and luxurious.

I'm a big fan of Kiss Air Candles and I would definitely recommend them. They are long lasting, burn evenly, strong scented and simply delicious. If you get one of these you are definitely in for a treat!

If you like the sound of these candles or fancy a peak at the others that are available you can take a look at the Kiss Air Candle website. Large tins are £8.50 and small tins are £5.00. They make perfect gifts for friends and family who are candle fans too! The next scents I have my eye on are Toffee Apple and Pina Colada... yum!

Wedding | The Honeymoon

Wedding: The Honeymoon

This is going to be a funny post because although in my other wedding ones I've been a little secretive because friends and family read my blog and I don't want to give too much away in this one I can tell you even less because I don't know myself!

When we started wedding planning we decided my Groom, Simon would arrange our honeymoon as a surprise. To be honest I'm not sure why we decided that or even what made us think of it but it's what we've stuck to and it's very exciting!

A lot of people have been surprised I'm not worried but Simon and I have been a couple for 10 and a half years so if he doesn't know me by now he never will! He knows what type of holiday's I like so I'm really excited to see what he's picked and it's really nice for him to do something independently for the wedding. It's also good for me because it means I have a surprise too! Our guests have got lots of surprises throughout the day and evening and of course the Groom has because my dress is a big secret so I like the idea that I will also have a surprise too.

Ideally I would like to be going somewhere hot and luxurious. I would love a hotel on the beach and have 1-2 weeks relaxing. I'd like to be pampered and a variety of restaurants to go to during the evening plus maybe some places to go to on a few trips too.

My top locations would be (in no particular order):

1) Barbados
2) St Lucia
3) Maldives
4) Grenada
5) Bahamas

I will find out in Simon's speech where our honeymoon destination is..... eeeeek!!!

What would be your dream honeymoon destination?

Lifestyle | Saving the Pennies

Lifestyle: Saving the pennies

I love a good bargain and now more and more deals are moving online it is becoming easier to find. This is good news for me because with a holiday, my wedding and honeymoon fast approaching I can doing with saving the pennies as much as I can whilst still getting some treats to enjoy.

My first point of call are usually coupon websites such as Couponmachine as these collate lots of deals together so you don't have to spend too much time hunting around. You need to look closely to see if the deals are available online and/or in store but there are usually a good mixture and something to meet what you're looking for.

The websites are easy to use too. After going onto the main website you can either use the search option for something specific or browse around the drill down buttons such as Flipkart and Snapdeal to see groups of deals which are on offer. All you need to do is look around until you find something you fancy.

I think I will be using these types of websites a lot over the next few weeks. I plan to get some new clothes for my holiday and honeymoon as well as some beauty bits for touch ups on my wedding day. Fingers crossed I find some good deals!

Wedding | Coping with Wedding Stress

Wedding: Coping with Wedding Stress

People say planning a wedding is one of the most stressful things you can do in your life but up until about a week ago I just found it fun. Over the past 9 months there's been the odd hiccup but nothing major and I've pretty much loved every second of it! However, in the past week I definitely encountered the more stressful side of wedding planning and suddenly had a lot of sympathy for all those other brides out there busy trying to plan their perfect day.

Planning a wedding, however big or small can get very overwhelming. Most people have a picture of their dream wedding in their mind and trying to make that the reality can be challenging as well as trying to please everyone. I've been lucky that I've had a really good idea from the start what I wanted which has definitely helped when it comes to making decisions but it's non stop and can become stressful constantly having to decide things, particularly if your time is precious. This is the part I have found hard in the last week. I have a full time job in a high pressure environment, my blog and I'm recovering from glandular fever. Combine that with wedding planning, a cold and my laptop breaking resulted in me struggling to make my progress with the latter two. I'm too exhausted in the evenings to get anything done and of course you can't phone up companies then anyway. My precious weekends are taken over with appointments or just simply having some time to unwind and at times I've felt like I'm drowning in endless things to do!

After getting stressed out about this and from advice from family and friends I decided that wasn't going to help and I needed to put something in place to help. Below are some of the things I have/thought about which has really helped me and hopefully they will also help you too!

Here are my tips for coping with wedding stress:

1) Be Organised - Throughout the whole wedding planning I have been organised with countless spreadsheets but that only helps if you're on your laptop or PC. So this week I have put together a wedding folder which basically contains some templates I made up in Word where I can write down lists of various things. I included one for appointments, payments, things to do and things I've done so everything is one place. This has helped SO much! I feel like I'm back in control and although I have lots to do it's now all done on paper rather than in my head so I'm not desperately trying to remember them all. At the moment there's over 80 items on one list alone.. no wonder I couldn't sleep with all that whirling around my head!

I also bought a list book from Selfridges which is brilliant. Not only is it pretty but it also has lots of sticky notes inside that can be used to make lists. One in particular is very useful as it has check boxes on it too and I've used it to make a list for me, my Fiance and mum. I use it for my weekly list of tasks where as my 'master' to do list is in my folder. That way I know I'm making progress without being overwhelmed by the ever growing master list.

2) Time Out - Sometimes when everything is getting too much it's a good idea to leave it and do something else. Take a day or too to unwind and do something completely different. Clearing your head will makes things so much better.

3) It's Your Day - Remember what the day is about. It's you and the love of your life getting married. It isn't about the flowers, or napkins or music.. it's about the two of you! You can't possibly please everyone so ultimately you need to do what suits you and your day but of course that doesn't mean you shouldn't consider other people too!

4) Friends and Family - My family and friends are very supportive and have been a big help, my mum and dad in particular. They've done lots to help me with the wedding by collecting and ordering things plus being there to talk to.

5) Don't Panic - My Maids of Honour both advised me it's completely normal to feel stressed during wedding planning and that they were surprised I hadn't felt like it sooner. So don't panic... you are not alone! Everything will get sorted out in the end, just take your time, know what you need to do and do a bit at a time.

6) Perspective - If your feeling stressed about how much to do put it into perspective. Is anyone really going notice that this particular thing hasn't been done? Worst case scenario it probably isn't something anything would know wasn't there or wasn't quite right other than you.

Tutorial | How To Make Your Nails Stronger

How to Make Your Nails Stronger

Over the years I've always struggled with my nails because they are so fragile. It seems as soon as I got them to a length I was happy with one would break and it would start a domino affect. Before I knew it they had all broken and I was back to square one which gets very frustrating! At times my nails are so fragile they are also pretty bendy which means they are even more likely to snag and break so this year I decided enough was enough and I'd try some new ways to make them stronger and healthier. They are by no means the perfect nails but there is definitely an improvement so I thought I would share my tips with you in case any one else has been struggling with weak nails like I have!

1) Hard as Nails - I use Sally Hansen Hard as Nails weekly which has definitely helped strengthen them. I apply 1-2 coats depending on whether I am going to apply other nail polish over the top. Make sure you apply it all over your nail, including the edges and let it dry properly between coats.

2) Don't pick your nail varnish - I have a bad habit of picking my nail varnish when I am stressed and I've come to the conclusion it is making my nails weaker because I'm pretty sure it often takes off some of the nail too. This is definitely a no no when it comes to getting healthier nails!

3) Don't pick your nails - If you want strong and long nails don't pick them! It's not something I do but it's an important one to note because it will weaken your nails and make them look uneven.

4) Weekly manicures - I do a weekly manicure which at first started off to be a bit of a chore but after seeing the results week on week I actually began to look forward to it. Included in my mani I remove my nail polish, buff, file and clip my nails, reapply hard of nails and my nail polish.. done!

5) File your nails - I mention filing my nails above but I think it has really helped. My nails look so much better having a defined shape and the more you do it the easier it is. Remember to only file your nails in one direction and have one in your bag to file any snagged nails that occur while your out.

6) Apply nail polish - This is a controversial one as some people say that nail polish makes their nails break more but for me it's the opposite. I found whenever I had chips that's exactly where my nails break so now I always make sure my nails are completely covered in polish. If I get a chip during the day I make sure I touch it up or reapply the varnish to the whole nail as soon as I can and it's definitely prevented getting breaks!

Following the above has made my nails look and feel far healthier and stronger. I'm by no means an expert but these are things I've have done and what has helped me!

What are your tips for stronger, healthier nails?

Wedding | Our Invitations

Wedding: Our invitations

With just 79 days to go until our wedding day all of the invitations have been distributed and we are receiving a steady trickle of replies. It's very exciting each week seeing who has replied and looking at their menu choices (read more about the options we gave our guests here) and we've been overwhelmed by the response. After doing research online the general opinion was to expect around 20% of guests to decline but after receiving all of our day RSVPs back we only had two decline which was pretty amazing.

It was a big struggle finding our invitations and it took several months of trawling the internet and visiting wedding fairs before I came across a company that designed some I loved. We chose each element of the invitations from the paper, to the ribbon, crystals and wording on every insert which actually wasn't as difficult as you may think. I knew exactly what I was looking for so when I saw everything piece together I didn't think twice about them, they were perfect.

We have slight variations on our day and evening invites but the front is exactly the same. The day invites are pocket fold which mean they open upwards and the bottom half contains a 'pocket' that holds various cards containing different information for our guests, for example, menu options, accomodation, gift list and RSVP card. The top half of the invitation details the invite itself with key information and of course who the invite is for. We were keen to go down the traditional route so the invite is actually addressed from my parents. The evening invites are similar to the above but instead of a pocket fold are a booklet as we didn't need to include quite so much information. We also sealed every invite with our own personalised wax seal which was a lot of fun!

Overall I'm really pleased with how they turned out and the feedback has been lovely. We've had some really special comments so the long deliberation over which ones to pick was definitely worth it!
